The one similarity which is disguised as a difference is both Lebowskis are not very wealthy. The big Lebowski at first seems very wealthy to other people and has all these achievements up on the wall and a charity to make him seem like a wealthy person. But really he is poor like the Dude and gets his money from his daughter as an "allowance". The Dude is also a deadbeat and basically lives on nothing. The Dude has no money and no job. He is lazy and I'm surprised he has a house or even gets through life. At least the Big Lebowski has his daughter to support him.
A difference is that the Big Lebowski is a stubborn selfish fool that is a fraud on what he does or lives by. He does nothing for his charity and has nothing to offer for it. All he cares about is himself and his happiness. The Dude is not selfish at all he cares about other people like his friends and even people he just met like the Big Lebowski , he helps him get his wife back or tries to and he helps Lebowskis daughter conceive a baby that she wants. He doesn't want much either he doesn't care about the million dollars he just wanted to get the job done.
The big Lebowski also seems to want to be rich and nothing else so he tries to steal the million dollars when his wife just conveniently disappears for a while. He even blames the Dude for stealing the money when there really was no money. The Dude had no intention of stealing it he was happy with his lifestyle of being poor and having nothing. He liked doing nothing and being lazy and accomplishing nothing in life but bowling and getting high. The big Lebowski also had no one in his life he was lonely and selfish who wanted nothing Else except to be rich and have everything . Dude had his friends as well and was a very likeable person who was considerate of others, his friends were always there for him and he wasn't that lonely at all.
